Welcome to the home of Gondwana Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

The home of Top winning Rhodesian Ridgebacks in South Africa.

About Us

My husband Andre and I acquired our first Rhodesian Ridgeback in 2003. His name was Hattli Brutus and he was a beautiful red wheaten. We did not purchase him as a show dog, but purely for companionship. Brutus had the most gentle nature and yet he was aloof with strangers. One Sunday we happened to drive past Goldfields Show Grounds, Johannesburg and decided to have a look. We entered the open show and he won everything, it did not bother us that he was the only Rhodesian Ridgeback entered. We were hooked.

Eileen Ruby ( Irish Wolfhounds ) helped us and explained how to enter a champion show and what to bring and not what to bring. Thanks Eileen.

Our very first champion show Brutus took RCC and Best Puppy against another bitch puppy. In all honesty our very first show was a day “from hell”. We were ridiculed and called idiots due to our lack of show equipment and because our poor Brutus had dew claws and this was from people with the same breed. I made a vow there and then, that I would never behave in the same manner as they did to newcomers.

During this period my incredible love and passion for the breed has escalated. I have imported semen  from both Holland & Czech Republic. I have imported from the best kennels worldwide to add to my lines and to improve on my breeding.

My mentor and great friend Yvonne du Preez "Roodedraai Rhodesian Ridgebacks" taught and guided me, standing by me when tough decisions had to be made and never once saying “you are wrong”. She was an absolute lady, diplomat and a true friend. Her friendship and guidance is sorely missed by myself and my husband. Her death is a great loss to the dogworld and especially to the Rhodesian Ridgeback breed. Her knowledge, understanding, passion and her “eye for a dog” was legendary. She was one of the most well known and well respected breeders and judge both locally and internationally. I am honoured that I could learn from one of the “greats” and I will fulfill my promises that I made to her.

I have been fortunate to have 2 other great mentors, Sharron Taylor of Usakose RR in Australia and who bred Mister Brown and Liz Megginson of Shangara RR.

· My commitment and dedication is for the breed and not for my ego.

· I will strive to breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks that are true to type and with excellent temperaments.

· I will ensure that every Gondwana puppy will be placed into the most suitable, loving home and that I will be always available to offer help when needed. I offer lifetime support of your Gondwana Rhodesian Ridgeback.

· I will not breed for monetary gain.

Health testing is of paramount importance and understanding that the health issues that affect the breed in other parts of the world also does occur in our local dogs as well. Many local breeders like to say that the "African Rhodesian Ridgeback" is not prone to the diseases that overseas dogs have. Absolute nonsense.

All of my breeding dogs are tested for the following:

  • Hip Dysplasia
  • Elbow Dysplasia
  • OCD
  • LTV
  • Dilute Gene (Blue Gene)
  • Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)
  • Eyes (SAVA)
  • and Early Onset Adult Deafness (EOAD)
